SynQ Release Notes

The SynQ add-in (build 2.7.0.38) for Microsoft Outlook synchronizes calendar events, to-do/task items, and address-book contacts between your calendar server and Outlook. You must have a valid user account on your calendar server. Additionally, Outlook must be installed, configured, and run at least once for each user prior to running SynQ.

These release notes provide the following:

For details on using the add-in, see the Outlook SynQ User's Guide.

Enhancements In This Release

Release 2.7 includes the enhancements detailed in this section.

  • SynQ 2.7 introduces a more efficient way of resolving synchronization conflicts that occur when the add-in detects changes for an item (calendar event, contact, or task) that exist on the Mirapoint server and within your Microsoft Outlook client. Conflicts are now resolved based on the importance of data changes. For example, changes to the start time, end time and recurrence of an event are considered to be major changes and are used to decide the winner of the conflict (that is, which information to keep). The conflict resolution dialog box will appear only if SynQ detects major changes to the item both on the server and within Outlook. At that point, you'll have to determine a winner.

In previous versions, conflict resolution was handled either automatically (which required you to predetermine if the server or Outlook is the winner for all conflicts) or manually (in which you determined the winner when the conflict resolution dialog box appeared).
  • SynQ 2.7 provides a "clean sync" feature that lets you easily synchronize your calendar data from scratch. On the Tools menu within Microsoft Outlook, there is now a Clean Synchronize using SynQ option that lets you erase all your calendar data from Outlook and resynchronize with the current calendar data on the Mirapoint server. You can also perform a clean sync the other way, where you replace the Mirapoint server data with your Outlook information. Additionally, you can do a clean sync in either direction for any of your shared calendars.

Important: Do not use this feature unless you are directed to do so by your system administrator.

The need for this feature arose from the fact that calendar data within Outlook and on the Mirapoint server occasionally become out of sync, which can lead to problems such as duplicated events. (Additionally, the problem of data inconsistency is exacerbated by the synchronization of shared calendars, where multiple users can update a calendar.) Prior to this release, performing a clean sync involved locating and removing a particular .xml file, and then resynchronizing.

Note: Only calendar data is affected by a clean sync; contact and task information is not. Details on using this new feature is available in the SynQ-Outlook user guide and the SynQ online help. (41725)

Fixed In This Release

Release 2.7 fixes the customer-reported issues detailed in this section.

  • If SynQ Connector was not listed first in the LDAP search list, you could not successfully add a shared user whose user name contained a dot. (43468)
  • You were unable to synchronize with a Blackberry device running the Black Desktop Manager 4.2 software. (43268)
  • SynQ Personal Folders data files were available for use and displayed as options in the New Outlook Data File dialog box. (42927)
  • The warning message notifying you of potential problems with PDA devices would always display whenever SynQ was installed. Now this message can be suppressed. (42460)
  • Installing the SynQ add-in would overwrite settings for an existing LDAP directory configured in Microsoft Outlook. (42363)
  • Entries in a distribution list created in Microsoft Outlook would be deleted upon synchronization. SynQ does not support the synchronization of distribution lists. With this fix, the distribution list still will not be synchronized, but the list will remain intact in Outlook. (30625)
